University Dining receives great feedback to its ‘One Change’ campaign

February 10, 2013

February 4, 2013 (Raleigh, N.C.) – The first two weeks of University Dining’s “One Change” nutrition campaign were a success. Hundreds of students and faculty participated in the program, enjoying prize giveaways and nutrition tips as they worked on making healthy changes to their lifestyles.

The “One Change” campaign, which started Jan. 21, encourages participants to make one positive change per week, such as eating well or walking more often. Participants are also encouraged to log their progress with the MyFitnessPal app, which includes nutrition information for everything served by University Dining on the N.C. State campus. At the end of the campaign, participants can submit a video of their progress for a chance to win an iPad.

“I think the first two weeks have gone really well,” said Lisa Eberhart, the University Dining dietitian, who is leading “One Change.”

The focus of week one was to “get walking.” The dining halls displayed the nutrition information of their dishes in terms of steps as opposed to calories, and University Dining representatives handed out pedometers to participants. During the second week, students and faculty were encouraged to hydrate. Hydration stations were set up at Fountain Dining Hall to provide participants with fresh flavored waters. Eberhart said these stations were especially well received.

“The hydration stations looked great,” Eberhart said. “They were a particular favorite of students.”

Week three, which starts today, will focus on moving. University Dining is partnering with Carmichael Gym to promote the variety of exercise classes that are offered, and representatives will appear at some of these classes with prizes to give away. One of these prizes is a carton of Howling Cow chocolate milk, which is viewed as one of the best recovery drinks.

Other important dates include:

Week 3: Get moving.
Week 4: Eat well.
Week 5: Relax.
Week 6: Log it with the MyFitnessPal app.
